Temporary Lighting
Temporary Lighting - Emergency Service
Many times, especially in the case of a fire, electricity will not be functioning. We are able to provide temporary lighting either with a temporary electrical hookup or via a generator.
Temporary Lighting for Damaged Buildings in Chicago and the Surrounding Suburbs
After a fire or storm the power is usually cut. The building goes dark, which makes it unsafe for adjusters, investigators and contractors to do their work. Accurate Board-Up & Glass installs temporary lighting and power so the property can be inspected and repaired safely.
Where temporary lighting is used
- Fire damaged homes and businesses with the electric shut off
- Buildings under insurance inspection
- Job sites before permanent power is restored
- Vacant buildings that need security lighting
- Basements and interior rooms with no windows
What we install
We run temporary string lighting and work lights through the affected areas and tie them to a generator or a temporary electrical hookup. Lighting is placed along paths of travel, stairs and work areas. Wiring is routed and secured so it is not a trip hazard. Exterior lights can be added to deter trespassers.
Why it matters for your claim
Fire investigators and insurance adjusters cannot complete their reports in the dark. Temporary lighting speeds up the inspection, which speeds up your claim. It also keeps everyone on site safe.
Combined emergency services
Temporary lighting is usually part of a larger response with board up, shoring and winterization. We bring the lighting equipment on the first visit so it is ready when the inspectors arrive.

Frequently Asked Questions About Temporary Lighting
Do you supply the generator?
Yes. If a temporary electrical hookup is not possible we bring a generator and the fuel to run it, and we can refuel it on a schedule.
Why do I need temporary lighting after a fire?
The power is usually cut after a fire or storm. Fire investigators, insurance adjusters and contractors cannot work in the dark, so temporary lighting speeds up the inspection and the claim while keeping everyone safe.
What does temporary lighting include?
String lights and work lights run through the affected areas, placed along stairs, hallways and work zones. Wiring is routed and secured so it is not a trip hazard. Exterior lights can be added to deter trespassers.
How long can the temporary lighting stay in place?
As long as the inspection and repair take. We check and maintain the setup on request until permanent power is restored.
Is temporary lighting covered by insurance?
Usually yes, as part of the emergency services needed to inspect and protect the property after a covered loss. We include it on the same itemized invoice as the board up.
