Reglazing Glass

Reglazing Glass - Emergency Service

The glass panes in a window are called glazing. Whether you’re reglazing windows during restoration or because of an errant baseball, you’ll have to seal between the glass and wood muntins and frame with “putty”, a word still used to describe the material that keeps the weather out of the joints. Our experts have the experience to avoid having condensation and cracks in your windows.

Glass Reglazing, Board Up and Replacement in Chicago and the Surrounding Suburbs

A broken storefront or shattered window cannot wait until morning. Accurate Board-Up & Glass secures the opening right away and then reglazes or replaces the glass so your building looks and works the way it should.

Glass services we provide

  • Emergency board up of broken windows and doors
  • Reglazing of older wood and steel windows
  • Storefront and commercial plate glass replacement
  • Residential window glass replacement
  • Glass door and sidelight replacement
  • Tempered and safety glass where code requires it

Two steps: secure now, replace next

Step one is the emergency visit. We remove loose glass, sweep the area and cover the opening with plywood so the building is safe and weather tight. Step two is the glass work. We measure the opening, order the correct glass, install it and remove the board up. For common sizes we can often replace the glass on the first visit.

Break ins, vandalism and accidents

Many glass calls come after a break in or vandalism. We work with the police report and your insurance adjuster and give you photos and an itemized invoice.

Commercial glass for busy locations

Retail stores, restaurants, banks and offices need a clean, fast fix so customers keep coming in. We offer temporary framed doors and clear temporary panels where a plywood board up would hurt your business.

Frequently Asked Questions About Reglazing Glass

What is the difference between reglazing and replacing a window?

Reglazing replaces only the glass pane and reseals it in the existing frame with new glazing compound. Replacement swaps the entire window unit. We do both and recommend the one that fits your window and budget.

Do you board up broken windows before replacing the glass?

Yes. On the first visit we remove loose glass, sweep the area and cover the opening with plywood. Then we measure, order the glass, install it and take the board up down.

How long does emergency glass replacement take?

Common residential sizes can often be replaced the same day. Custom storefront and tempered glass usually takes a few days to arrive, and the board up keeps the building secure in the meantime.

Do you replace storefront and commercial glass?

Yes. Storefronts, restaurants, offices and banks are a large part of our work. We offer temporary clear panels and framed temporary doors so a business can stay open while the glass is on order.

Does insurance cover broken glass from a break in or vandalism?

Usually yes under your property policy. We work with the police report and your adjuster and provide photos and an itemized invoice for the claim.
